Will dentures affect the way I speak?

At Topeka Dentistry, our goal is for you to have the best smile possible. In order to achieve that, we work hard to ensure you know all your dental options before we form a personalized treatment plan for you. If it turns out that dentures are part of your treatment plan, you may have questions about whether they will affect the way you talk. Let’s look at what you can expect if you are considering dentures.

How Will Dentures Affect My Speech?

When you get dentures, it will take some time for the muscles in your mouth to adjust, but before you know it, you will get used to your new dentures and fully enjoy your beautiful smile.

You may experience the following:

  • Difficulty adjusting to the way dentures feel in your mouth
  • Problems with certain consonants, mostly T, F, and S
  • Increased saliva production

The good news is that these side effects won’t last very long, and with a bit of time and practice, you will be speaking clearly before you know it.
