Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, root canals are generally safe during pregnancy, especially when done in the second trimester. If you're experiencing tooth pain or an infection, it's essential not to delay seeking care. At Topeka Dentistry, we understand that pregnancy comes with a lot of questions (and changes!), which is why we take extra precautions to ensure both you and your baby stay safe and comfortable.

When a tooth becomes severely infected or decayed, a root canal may be necessary to remove the infection and prevent further complications. Leaving a dental infection untreated can actually pose a greater risk to your health and your pregnancy than the procedure itself.

We work closely with your obstetrician if needed and use pregnancy-safe anesthetics to keep you comfortable. Diagnostic x-rays, if necessary, are also safe when used with proper shielding and modern low-dose technology.

Even with misshapen, chipped, pitted, and discolored teeth, veneers can create the appearance of a flawless smile in a short time. For many patients, there is a significant appeal to the possibility of a picture-perfect smile, but it's important to remember that veneers are permanent.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of material, typically porcelain, that is bonded to the surface of a patient's tooth. This veneer covers imperfections and creates the appearance of a perfectly shaped healthy white tooth.

Veneers are appealing to patients looking for the appearance of perfectly straight teeth. For many people, veneers might be the only way they can create the appearance they want for their teeth.

Veneer Placement

The dentist removes a thin layer of enamel from the surface of the tooth. This is done so that the veneer has a place to rest on the tooth. After the enamel has been removed, the dentist bonds the veneer to the tooth.

Veneers are functionally permanent as the removed enamel will not come back. The teeth cannot be left without the protection of the veneer.

Dentists can remove and update veneers as may necessary due to wear and tear or damage to the veneers.
